Triple Challenge: #3 Càrn Liath Munro Cimb

About: From Loch Moraig, climbing the Munro Carn Liath (Blair Atholl) or a low level walk to Shinagag & back as part of the ‘Triple Challenge 2019’ to raise money for the Jak’s Den Charity.

When: Sunday 15th September  ’19.

Time: in time to depart Dunfermline (see below) at 6am prompt.

Meeting point 1: Initially (to car share) in the car park at the Queen Margaret Halt (off Whitefield Rd/Queen Margaret Fauld/Hill of St Margaret) –

Meeting point 2: To ensure everyone is on course we plan to meet again in the roadside parking area on the outskirts of Blair Atholl, before setting off for Loch Moraig and the start of the walk –

Meeting point 3: In the roadside parking area above Loch Moraig for the start of the walk –

Overall travelling time: From Dunfermline to Loch Moraig via Blair Atholl (around 62 miles) – approx. 1hr 20mins

Route 1 (Leaders Scott, Michael, John & Jim): From Loch Moraig to Carn Liath summit & back (around 5.8 mls)    Duration: Approx. 4hrs


Route 2 (Leader Christine): Out & back walk to Shinagag (around 7 mls)            Duration: Approx. 3.5hrs

More info: Details of the Munro Carn Liath (Beinn a’ Ghlo) can be seen by visiting Please note that Carn Liath is the lowest and most accessible Munro in the Beinn a’Ghlo range and the hill that we have earmarked for the challenge. Two further Munros exist in this range: Braigh Coire Chruinn-bhalgain and Carn nan Gabhar, which very fit and intrepid Munroists can combine with Carn Liath to give a long hill day of 8 – 10 hrs, covering a distance of 13.75 mls.
