I was never able to run due to joint problems. I missed out a lot of PE in high school, and any time I tried to run, I would get sharp shooting pain in my ankles. I was back and forward to hospital and doctor appointments as a kid, but all I got was horrible insteps to try, all different kinds, as none worked.
When I was 30, I found out I am hypermobile and totally flat footed and started getting made to fit insteps – total game changer. Fast forward to 2019, I decided to try again and downloaded c25k. It took a lot of watching my foot landings, a lot of pain and perseverance, but I finally managed! Then I challenged myself to my 1st official 5k in September 2019. As well as signing up to parkrun, I started looking at joining a club. I found Jog Scotland, but sadly I joined just before covid hit. Once allowed back out with clubs I started running with JSD, then joined paace as well, and to be honest, I certainly wouldn’t be as far as I am if it wasn’t for these lot. I have been encouraged and supported by each and every one of the leaders and other members. I even done a half marathon in November 2022(!) which I would never have even thought about doing if it wasn’t for these guys! I used to say things like “10k, oft I can’t do that”, then I done it and it was all due to this lot.
They are all just the best!
