I decided that I wanted to run 5k by my 60th birthday. Why? Just because! So I had about 8 months before my 60th. I started C25k on my own, which went well. I discovered Parkrun, which gave me that little bit of challenge.
From there, I also discovered members of Jog Scotland Dunfermline. I went along one Wednesday night to see what the group was all about. I had no idea what to expect. Off we jogged for our warm-up ( not bad, I can do this). Then, onto my first session. A hill session up and down the New Row! Strangely, I enjoyed it. I returned the following week.
I ran my first 10k trail race in Pitlochry before my 60th, only achieved through the encouraging members of Jog Scotland Dunfermline. Would never have run 10k, never mind, enter a 10k trail race! That was 6 years ago. I have run many races since including two half marathons. I am not at all fast, but that doesn’t matter. Members and leaders are there for support. I have met many people through the club and seen places in and around Dunfermline that I never knew existed .
I became a leader in 2020. Just as things were opening up again after Covid. I am never going to be fast but can trot alongside you and find some great coffee stops after our Sunday runs.
